Hey. My name is Heath Saraceno. I play guitar in Senses Fail. I go on tour. I eat food. This is the food that I eat while on tour.

Email suggestions to heathlovesfood@gmail.com if you know of a sweet spot I should try.

OASIS THE FALAFEL JOINT - GYRO AND FALAFEL PLATTER
Sometimes when I’m unsure of where to eat I open up my phone, log into VZ Navigator, and look up local restaurants.  The offbeat name of this place “The Falafel Joint” caught my eye.  That and the fact that I haven’t had Middle Eastern food in quite some time convinced me to give it a shot.
I walked in thinking that I wanted a Falafel Pita.  I had been craving one for days.  My order quickly changed when I saw what the person next to me had on his plate.  Instead of my original order, I ordered the Gyro Plate with Falafel and Tabouleh.
I didn’t really mess with gyro meat until a couple years ago.  The site of it in kebab shops used to make me gag.  I always thought it looked like a piece of burnt styrofoam with bits of fat and bark in it.  Even though I now enjoy it from time to time, it still doesn’t come close to my love for falafel.
In this case, the meat was really greasy.  It coated the plate with a thin layer of liquid.  The falafel benefitted from this extra liquid though, as it was dry and grainy on its own.  These two items tasted better together in a pita with some tahini sauce.  Separately they were both a little boring.  The tabouleh brought a light and fresh element to the meal, which was essential given the other main components.
I enjoyed it even thought it was a bit much for me.  I could have split this entire plate with another person of equal size and we both would have been full and left some morsels uneaten.  As we were about to get up to leave I noticed a woman in line staring at my food.  I’m pretty sure that she did exactly what I did and changed her mind to order the Gyro Platter.
