HOULIHAN’S - TUNA WONTONS APPETIZER
Ok, so I know that Houlihan’s is a chain restaurant, and please forgive me for this, but sometimes on tour you just have to go with the best option out of what you’re given.  After the show an old friend of mine, Christian McKnight, took us all over to Houlihan’s to hang out and get a couple of drinks and some appetizers.
Christian ordered the ‘Shrooms which are big mushroom caps filled with a creamy ranch concoction, breaded and deep fried.  As far as deep fried bar snacks go these aren’t that bad.  My only problem with them is that they’re so rich, I can only eat one or two.
I opted for the Tuna Wontons.  I had never ordered them before, but I have had the ahi tuna salad at this place so I was fairly certain that the fish would at least be tolerable.  There really is a ceiling with how good a meal can be at a chain restaurant like this, but taking that into consideration I would say that I was very happy with my choice.
In between conversation ranging all the way between Metallica and the New York Mets, (two of my favorite topics to drink beer to) I slowly picked away at my tuna.  There was a nice balance of sweet and tart flavors between the soy sauce and the cole slaw.  The tuna was barely seared, which is just how I like it, and the bite sized pieces had a nice little shot of wasabi mayo next to them.  The wasabi mayo luckily was not too overpowering.  Some places really like to glob any sort of mayo all over their food, which can ruin a meal for me, but I’m glad that the cook had a light hand.
This was a good portion for an appetizer.  I could order this before a meal and not worry about it filling me up before the meal arrived.  This definitely beats my previous experience at Houlihan’s where I ordered the fish tacos.  That meal made me swear off anything from a restaurant that is described as having “chipotle mayo” on it.  Wasabi mayo however may get a new spot in my life after this meal.
